Ahead COP26 and MEPC77, Swiss Shipowners Association sent an open letter to President Guy Parmelin and Federal Councilor Simonetta Sommaruga.
COP26 is an opportunity to re-launch discussions within the International Maritime Organization (IMO) so that the necessary decisions can be taken to enable the maritime sector to contribute effectively to the fight against climate change.
The Swiss Shipowners Association underlines:
- The global problem of climate change can only be addressed through global solutions.
- Technologies to limit the environmental footprint of shipping do not exist today. An immediate solution is the only way for the maritime sector to achieve low or zero carbon technology.
